📁 File Formats & Sizes

❓ What file formats do you support?
We support 40 different formats across multiple categories:
  • Images: PNG, JPG/JPEG/JPE/JFIF, WebP, SVG, GIF, BMP, ICO, AVIF, QOI (TIFF output only)
  • Documents: PDF (output only), DOCX (output only), RTF, HTML, Markdown, TXT, EPUB (EPUB input only)
  • Audio: MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG/OGA, AIFF, ALAC, Opus, WebM/WEBA, AU
  • Data: CSV, JSON, YAML, XML, TSV (can convert to PDF/DOCX for reports)

Note: TIFF, PDF, and DOCX are output-only. You can convert TO these formats, but not FROM them.

Visit the converter to see all available format combinations.
📤 What about TIFF, PDF, and DOCX file support?

⚠️ Important: TIFF, PDF, and DOCX input files are NOT supported.

Web browsers have limited capabilities for reading these complex formats. However:

  • ✅ You CAN convert TO TIFF/PDF/DOCX - Convert any supported file to these formats
  • ❌ You CANNOT convert FROM TIFF/PDF/DOCX - These files cannot be used as input

If you have a TIFF file to convert:

  1. First convert your TIFF to PNG, JPG, or WebP using desktop software:
    • GIMP (free) - Open TIFF and export as PNG/JPG
    • Photoshop - Save As PNG/JPG
  2. Then use this tool to convert to your desired format

If you have a PDF file to convert:

  1. Open your PDF in a PDF reader and export/save as another format:
    • Adobe Acrobat - Export as Word, Image, or Text
    • Preview (Mac) - Export as PNG, JPG
    • Microsoft Edge (Windows) - Print to Image or save images
  2. Then use this tool to convert to your desired format

If you have a DOCX file to convert:

  1. Open your DOCX in a word processor and export/save as another format:
    • Microsoft Word - Save As → TXT, HTML, or Markdown
    • Google Docs - File → Download → Plain Text or HTML
    • LibreOffice Writer - File → Export → Text or HTML
  2. Then use this tool to convert to your desired format

Why this limitation? TIFF, PDF, and DOCX are primarily output/document formats. Unlike simple formats like PNG or TXT which all browsers can read, these complex formats require special libraries that aren't fully available in web browsers. We can create these files (output), but cannot reliably read them (input).

❓ What's the maximum file size?
File size limits vary by type:
  • Images: Up to 25 MB
  • Audio: Up to 50 MB
  • Text/Documents: Up to 5 MB
  • Data files: Up to 10 MB
Larger files may cause your browser to slow down since processing happens locally.
❓ Why can't I convert Excel files?
We currently don't support Excel (.xlsx/.xls) files. However, you can convert CSV, JSON, XML, and other data formats that work well for spreadsheet data. You can also convert CSV/JSON/XML/YAML/TSV to PDF or DOCX for creating professional reports.
❓ Can I convert data files (CSV/JSON/XML) to PDF or Word documents?
Yes! Our converter can transform structured data files into professional PDF or DOCX documents with formatted tables:
  • CSV → PDF/DOCX: Converts your spreadsheet data into a formatted table document
  • JSON → PDF/DOCX: Parses JSON and creates a table with your data
  • XML → PDF/DOCX: Extracts data from XML and formats it as a table
  • YAML → PDF/DOCX: Converts YAML configuration files to readable documents
  • TSV → PDF/DOCX: Transforms tab-separated data into formatted tables
Perfect for generating reports, sharing data in a readable format, or creating documentation!
❓ Does Markdown conversion preserve formatting in PDF/DOCX/RTF?
Absolutely! Our Markdown converter fully preserves all formatting when converting to PDF, DOCX, and RTF:
  • Headers: # becomes large headers, ## becomes subheaders, ### becomes smaller headers
  • Bold text: **text** becomes properly bolded text
  • Lists: - items become bullet points with proper indentation
  • Paragraphs: Clean spacing and structure maintained
  • Multi-page: Long documents automatically split across multiple pages
Perfect for converting documentation, README files, or any Markdown content into professional documents!

⚙️ Technical Questions

❓ Why is my conversion taking so long?
Conversion speed depends on:
  • File size: Larger files take longer to process
  • Format complexity: Some conversions are more complex than others
  • Device performance: Your computer/phone's processing power
  • Browser: Chrome and Edge typically perform fastest
For very large files (>50MB), your browser may become slow or unresponsive.
❓ Which browsers are supported?
Our converter works on all modern browsers:
  • Chrome/Edge (recommended)
  • Firefox
  • Safari
  • Opera
For best performance, use the latest version of Chrome or Edge.
❓ Does quality decrease when converting?
It depends on the conversion:
  • Lossless: PNG, WAV, FLAC preserve 100% quality
  • Lossy: JPEG, MP3, WebP compress files, reducing quality slightly
  • Note: Converting from lossy to lossless doesn't improve quality - it just changes the format
You can adjust quality settings for image and audio conversions. Read our Audio Format Guide and Image Format Guide for more details.

🎯 Common Issues

❓ My file won't upload/convert. What's wrong?
Try these solutions:
  1. Check file size: Make sure it's under the limit for your file type
  2. Verify format: Ensure the file is in a supported format
  3. Refresh page: Sometimes a simple refresh helps
  4. Try another browser: Switch to Chrome or Edge if using another browser
  5. File corruption: The original file might be corrupted - try opening it in another app first
❓ The converted file doesn't look right. Why?
Common reasons:
  • Format limitations: Some formats don't support certain features (e.g., GIF has only 256 colors)
  • Compression: Lossy formats like JPEG reduce quality for smaller file sizes
  • Font/style issues: Document conversions may lose some formatting
  • Encoding: Text conversions might have character encoding issues
Try adjusting quality settings or using a lossless format if quality is critical. See our File Size Optimization Guide for more tips.

💡 Tips & Best Practices

❓ How do I choose the right format?
  • For web: WebP (images), MP3 (audio)
  • For quality: PNG (images), WAV/FLAC (audio)
  • For compatibility: JPEG (images), MP3 (audio), PDF (documents)
  • For file size: WebP/AVIF (images)
  • For transparency: PNG, WebP
Check our guides for detailed format comparisons!
✅ Can I convert multiple files at once?
